Goal: Players will learn how to CONTROL the ball using the inside of their feet. As they progress through the drills, players will learn to control the ball in space and turn when the ball is passed to them. This will allow them to create space to advance the ball up the field.
In a confined area each player will spread out with a ball. As players dribble around the area, coach will give out a specific number (for increased difficulty, add in basic math 1+2) Players will then have to make groups in that numbers. Any left out players will have to run to coach, give a high five, and then back to their ball.
Set Players up in pairs of two. With four cones create a square. One ball is needed per group. Players will pass back and forth between each other. The focus is to control the pass with the first touch within the created space, and then play a pass back to the other player.
Set Players up in groups of five. With four cones create a square. One ball is needed per group. Player starting with the ball will have a second person behind. Player 1 pass to Player 2. Player 2 controls the ball and pass to Player 3. Player 5 replaces Player 1, Player 1 replaces Player 2, and so on.
Set teams using pinnies and two goals. Use players to rotate teams to ensure balanced play. Encourage players to CONTROL the ball in a space best for them to proceed.
Players should feel confident CONTROLLING the ball using the inside of their feet. Players should understand that when controlling the ball we want the ball to be caressed, not left under us but in a close space so we can dribble, pass or shoot when time allows.
