Goal: Players will advance their understanding of DRIBBLING. Players will focus on using a skilled dribble move to beat a defender as well as to make space for themselves.
In a confined area players will spread out with a ball. As players dribble around the area, coach will give out a specific dribbling move (cut back, Ronaldo chop, step over, etc) Players will then attempt to replicate the skilled move as called out by coach.
1v1 - 1 defender 1 attacker. Attackers job is to beat the defender and put the ball in the net (do not allow far shots without beating the defender).
One defender is assigned to defend and should press the attacker. Attackers are queued in at half field, rotating the attacker after each possession. Rotate the defender every 3-5 possessions.
2v1 - Player starting with the ball dribbles in, passes or beats the defender. The attacking player without the ball must decide to make a run, go wide or stay back for an easy pass creating a give and go opportunity.
Set teams using pinnies and two goals. Use players to rotate teams to ensure balanced play. Encourage players to DRIBBLE to find space or beat a defender.
Players should feel confident DRIBBLING the ball using the outside of their feet. Players should understand that when dribbling the ball we want the ball close so we can make a move or cut the ball to keep it safe from a defender.
